Man Shot in the Face in L.A. Shooting Is Longtime Music Industry Executive
The identity of a man shot in the face during Friday's shooting in Hollywood has been revealed.our editor recommendsL.A. Shooting: Hollywood Reporter Editor Shot, Recalls IncidentGunman Opens Fire Near Hollywood's ArcLight Theater (Video) Music industry executive John Atterberry, in critical condition at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center, was sitting in his silver Mercedes on Friday by the intersection of Sunset Blvd. and Vine St. when the gunman shot him. Atterberry is a longtime recording industry manager and promoter and has been involved with acts like The Spice Girls, Brandy and Jessica Simpson, law enforcement sources told the Los Angeles Times. VIDEO: Gunman Opens Fire Near Hollywood's ArcLight Theater "I was shocked to hear the news," saysCourtney Barnes, publicist for Smokey Robinson and Ron Artest who has worked with Atterberry before."His office is nearby, ours is four blocks away, it could have been any ofus driving through that intersection." Barnes describes Atterberry as "areally nice guy." Police still do not have a motive for the shooting. The gunman, identifiedas 26-year-old Tyler Brehm by the Los Angeles County Coroner's office, randomly opened fire at approximately 10:19 a.m. near the ArcLight Cinemas. The suspect allegedly fired between nine and 12 shots before being killed by police, according to reports. When he ran out of bullets, the gunman allegedly pulled out a knife, yelling, "Kill me" and "I want to be killed." In what the Los Angeles Police Department called a "random shooting," witnesses enlisted the help of two police officers who were working on a nearby movie set after seeing a man open fire in the street. The man walked northbound on Vine with a gun in the air and when cars began driving by, lowered his gun and fired at them. One of those vehicles who was shot at was a THR.com photo editor, who was on his way to work from his North Hollywood home when the gunman fired at his black truck, which was captured on video. Jonah Hill on '21 Jump Street': 'If It Had Not Been Me, I'd Most likely Be Speaking S**t'
Among the best surprises of 2011: that amusing red-colored-band trailer for '21 Jump Street,' which made the halls of Moviefone HQ echo with guttural laughter. Who understood what appeared like this type of cynical nostalgia grab might be so funny? Well, most likely Jonah Hill since he authored the script. Inside a new interview with Moviefone sister site America online TV, Hill confesses he knows the trepidation some might feel toward the brand new film, because he'd feel exactly the same way. "[I]t never was my intention to remake anything," Hill told America online TV. "Whether it wasn't me, I'd most likely be speaking sh-t about me for remaking 'Jump Street.' However I loved the concept that it's completely different -- it isn't 1980s, it isn't spoof, it is simply the thought of two youthful-searching cops returning to senior high school. I am prepared to do anything whatsoever whether it's good, but I am not searching to re-make more stuff." Hill, who are able to be observed in animated form this Sunday throughout the growing season finale of 'Allen Gregory,' also talked about how Channing Tatum found be his co-star in '21 Jump Street.' "I completely chose Channing and that i known as him up myself and offered him the part." Browse the full interview at America online TV. Charlize Theron on 'Young Adult,' 'Prometheus' and Endearing Herself to America
"Shut the fuck up!," Charlize Theron screamed at her publicist. Yes, for a moment, it was hard to tell if she was kidding. Theron has an Academy Award for her portrayal of Aileen Wuornos in 2003's 'Monster,' but even this Oscar winner couldn't quite make it to the end of her next sentence, "Worst publicist in the fucking world. Jesus Christ," without breaking character and showing hints of laughter. But, by that point in the interview, I shouldn't have been too surprised, because I had already realized that Theron, in person, is not quite what you would expect. Definitely not on autopilot with her answers, Theron is loose, honest, and not afraid to throw an expletive around. Oh, also, she's kind of a nerd. In the Jason Reitman-directed and Diablo Cody-written 'Young Adult,' Theron plays Mavis Gary, an author of young adult novels who returns to her small hometown of Mercury, Minnesota, in an effort to woo her high school sweetheart back -- a high school sweetheart who is happily married and also a brand new father. A madcap comedy, this is not. In this wide-ranging discussion, Theron explains how her own high school experience as a nerd influenced Mavis, how come her role on 'Arrested Development' was so important to her career, and why working with Ridley Scott on 'Prometheus' was a dream come true. The South African native also reveals why 'District 9' is the most profound movie on apartheid that she's ever seen. (And please, please, never play 'What's Up' by 4 Non Blondes in her presence.) I always feel bad at the beginning of an interview, because I feel that you've just built some great rapport with someone else ... and then I show up. No, I was just shooting the shit with my publicist. So, you're the first. You're going to set the bar. This movie is hard to watch. Do you feel that's an accurate statement? Yes. Why do you feel that way? Because I think when we go to movies, it is somewhat having that experience of holding up a mirror and seeing yourself. And I think, in general, most movies show attributes that we aspire to. And this character is definitely not that. In saying that, you see yourself. I mean, I'm in my 30s and all my friends back where I grew up in Missouri have kids. Maybe you're right and I do see myself and that's why it's hard to watch. [Sneezes] Oh my God, I'm allergic to your questions! No, I mean, when I watched it, too, I felt the same way. It is a tough movie. And the movie is dressed up as this very simple story and it actually deals with really heavy real dark emotional human behavior. And I think there's a lot in that that we don't want to admit about ourselves. With a 4 Non Blondes song thrown in. That song ... yeah. What's that mean? I just have a whole other personal experience. I love Linda Perry -- I loved [What's Up'] when it came out. But I had an experience ... I flew out to Turkey a couple of years ago for an eclipse ... Not the 'Twilight' movie. No! [Laughing] "Twilight movie"... I just want to get that on the record. I'm not that cool. Noted. No, it was a nature thing and I dragged my ass up on to some hill where the Lonely Planet guy told me to go to experience the eclipse, you know, in the best way possible. And I was sitting there waiting for this eclipse to happen and this hippie girl pulled out a guitar and started playing that song -- over and over and over and over again. Every time I hear that song, I remember sitting in this hill going, "I dragged my ass all the way up here and that fucking bitch won't stop playing that song." This has nothing to do with the movie... This has everything to do with the movie. But that song brings back that memory. But now when that song plays in the movie, I now know why you look so miserable. OK, this relates: When we were shooting it, Jason would just play music -- surprise me with music. So he would never tell me what he was going to play. And he plays that and says, "I just want you to listen to what I play and then kind of taken in your town and see what's around you." So he plays that song, this look of disgust came on. He cut and he said, "Did the dog fart in the car or something? Because it looks like you're smelling a fart." And I was like, "I can't ... this song brings back horrible memories for me." There's my headline, "Why Charlize Theron thinks That 4 Non Blondes Songs Smell Like Farts." Oh, no! She is going to hate me! Linda Perry is an amazing songwriter. I'm really not sure where to go from here. We're done! Yes, we're done. I've got my "scoop." Did you base this character on anyone that you knew in high school? Or maybe some of your own traits? Yes. There's definitely a little bit of a lot of people in her. I think from the time that I say "yes" to a film, I obsessively start thinking and making a file in my head of things that I've seen or that I'm observing that could be really great. For example: the Diet Coke thing came from a girlfriend of mine who was highly addicted and she drank out of the two-liter bottle. It was like, "You're not even trying to make it look sexy anymore." You can't pop a can? Does it ever look sexy? I think a can would maybe be better than the two-liter that you're guzzling like a bottle. I think a can of Tab can look good. At least it did in the old commercials. Yeah, but then you have to special order it from Europe. But, yeah, she's not very happy about it. I was like, "Guess what?" And I discovered Mavis' walk while I was making this film -- and it's Jason Reitman's walk. And he's not happy about that at all. But he has this shuffle; you can like hear him before you see him because he just never picks up his feet from the ground. If I ever talk to him, I now know that if I hear the shuffle, he's approaching. Exactly! A little pigeon-toed shuffle. I'm jotting this down to bring up with him at a later time, "pigeon-toed shuffle." Underlined. I mean, I'm just a big thief. That saying is right: You steal from the best. You mispronounce Mos Eisley spaceport from 'Star Wars' in this movie. Did you actually have to learn what that is? No, I'm a bit of a nerd myself. Oh, so you knew the correct pronunciation coming into that scene. Yeah, and that actually made it harder. How would you mispronounce it? And Jason and I, we couldn't come up with one. So I feel like I failed a little bit making that sound like I couldn't pronounce it. So, instead, you were worried about losing your "nerd cred." I don't think I can. If you see my high school photos, you'll have a true understanding that my foundation as a nerd has been laid thick and well. Explain that. You should ask Patton [Oswalt] about it. I think anyone who has spent time with me has come to realize that I am really just a nerd stuck in six-inch heels, trying to be a girl. And why would your high school photo convey that? I had really bad eyesight and my mother decided to buy me the most unattractive glasses ever. And boys do not respond well to those, so you just fall into a whole different crowed when you wear big Sally Jesse Raphael glasses. I was not expecting to hear Sally Jesse Raphael's name today before I walked through that door. Well, have you seen her glasses? Yes, but not in a while. Well, that's exactly what I wore. They're weren't red, but they were the same size. That, as far as I'm concerned, is child abuse. Mavis spends a lot of time in this movie making herself presentable before she goes anywhere. Are you expected to do that? Can you go outside without a photo of you showing up with a caption that reads, "Look at Charlize looking like a normal human being today. How dare she!" No, I'm not too stuck up about that. I think that there is a great truth for, I believe, all women that Mavis kind of represents. Which is that we do innately understand how to dress for guys. Women just do. And we do it and we use it. We're very much aware of what we wear. I just think women are just very in tune with that stuff and I think there's a part of women who really enjoy that aspect of being feminine and being a girl. But we don't sustain that. There's no way that you can. And when we don't, it's not pretty. But it's real. I live a very simple life and, yeah, I can really do my thing and not have to worry. Being from South Africa, did you like 'District 9'? We were talking about this yesterday. The whole sense of this film being dressed up as a movie that is to appear like something that it's not. The fact that it's dealing with real heavy, human emotions. Really dark shit, but it kind of looks like this very simple story. And a great example of that is 'District 9.' It's a movie that kind of dressed itself up like a big summer blockbuster and yet it was the most profound piece I've ever seen on segregation and historical facts about African politics. It just blew me away. Absolutely brilliant. I can't wait to see what that guy does next. Yeah, Neill Blomkamp. I also really enjoyed how there was a commercially successful alien movie that wasn't set in NY or L.A. But, being from South Africa, that had to be interesting to you, just location wise. Yeah, the whole thing to me was amazing. Utilizing the environment and not hitting you over the top with it. I mean, I was way more moved by that film than I have by a small, independent film talking about apartheid. That film, really, really moved me. When you did "Arrested Development,' I feel you endeared yourself to a lot of people. Oh my God, it was amazing! I was a huge fan of the show and I really wanted to do it. I had been talking to Mitch for a while and, of course, got to know Jason Bateman. And then Patty Jenkins who wrote and directed 'Monster' went and directed a couple of shows. And Patty was like, "Everybody needs to see you in a comedy. You're so funny." I really have to give her credit, because I said to her, "I would love to do 'Arrested Development'" And so she started the conversation. I mean, sometimes it's hard when you ... not hard. That sounds horrible. People have preconceived ideas and this whole industry is a little ass-backwards. You know, the whole "red carpet gown" thing. People, I think, believe that more to be reality versus what we do as actors and what we love and who we are. And, also, I really don't go on the defense on having to feel a need to go and explain who I really am. When I work with people, I think they get a sense of who I really am. I'll admit, you're more laid back than I expected. [Theron's publicist chimes in from the adjoining room] She's not cool at all. [Sarcastically screaming] Shut the fuck up! Worst publicist in the fucking world. Jesus Christ. I'm trying to win fans here, OK? My new headline, "Charlize Theron: Jesus Christ, I'm Trying To Win Fans Here." [Laughing] I'm trying to endear America to me, OK? No, I get it, actors are very pretentious. Do you want to know the first movie that I ever thought I saw you in? 'Trial and Error.' Wow! I saw it at the theater. You went! That's... OK, I was so happy when you won an Oscar. Because I had seen 'The Lost World' already, which came out the week before, and I convinced my friends that had not seen 'The Lost Word' that this Michael Richards movie would be better. [Yells at her publicist] Give this guy eight dollars! That is amazing, you dragged them in there? After, I was like, "OK, but the actor who played the waitress was pretty good." A few years later, I was vindicated. That is hilarious. I had a great time on that. But I didn't realize you were in 'That Thing You Do,' which I had seen first. That's so long ago! I'm so old! I'm a few months older than you are, so that doesn't make me feel good. I'm rethinking this "you seem cool" statement. [Laughs] Let's just drink. Drink our sorrows away. It's before noon. [To her publicist] He's older than me. Do you know how sad that is? You're like five years older than the both of us. Theron's publicist: No, I'm actually the same age you are. [Theron starts laughing] I do have a final question. Uh oh. 'Prometheus.' The last time you did anything let's say, nerdy, with 'Aeon Flux,' people didn't like it. Obviously Ridley Scott is involved this time. But any hesitation? God, no. I mean, it's Ridley Scott. I'll be honest with you, I'm very director driven. I think 75 to 80 percent of my decision making is based on the director. Even before I read the script. And I tend to, more than not, find that the directors who inspire me -- the ones I really want to work with -- tend to have interesting material. In the case of Ridley, he's an iconic guy that I think there's three or four in his age and generation. And every actor has one of those guys they kind of dream to work with -- and, for me, it was Ridley Scott. I used to find myself on movies a lot of times just kind of, you know, working with these indecisive ... you know, "I don't know what I want to do." Oh my God, you're the fucking director. You should know what you want to do here. And I'd always kind of joke, "I just wish Ridley Scott was here right now." In my mind I had always envisioned him as this guy who just walked onto the set and knew exactly what he wanted. And that's exactly who he is. And, at the same time, he's a twelve year old who just still loves what he does. And, by the way, the characters are day and night different. I mean, I'm playing a suit. She's like a real corporate nightmare. But he's everything that I'd hoped he was. Not just to work with him, but on a genre he helped define, is amazing. I lied, here's one more: Why are there two Snow White movies? I don't know! But it's not a big deal. Honestly, I feel like people are in such a panic about it. I want everyone to take a deep breath... I'm not in a panic, I'm just confused... [Laughs] Calm down, it's going to be OK. I feel better now. Thank you. I think, also, now that the trailers are out, people understand they are two very, very different films. And there's no way financers are going to throw that kind of money toward two films they didn't feel like there was a market for both. So, everybody needs to chill out. It's going to be amazing. We're going to have two Snow Whites -- incredible! And you're good in it? Ah, well... [knocks on a wooden table] that was me knocking on wood! Transcribe that! Taylor Quick, Jum Michele, Scarlett Johansson Up for Eponine in 'Les Miserables' Adaptation: Rumor
Will Taylor Quick, Jum Michele, Scarlett Johansson or Evan Rachel Wood be on their own for your coming large-screen adaptation of 'Les Miserables'? Groan, but: possibly! No less than if you feel Page Six as well as the NY Publish. In line with the paper, all stars are competing for your key role of Eponine in Academy Award champion Tom Hooper's new film. Per an origin, Quick, Michele, Johansson and Wood bring something for the role, but Michele -- the 'Glee' celebrity who made her Broadway debut just like a fill-looking for Cosette in 'Les Miserables' -- "knocked it in the park." Clearly remove giant grains of salt -- the kind you will need your hands to keep -- however, these choices are kinda promising? Most most likely, Eddie Redmayne -- who plays Eponine's love, Marius -- delays with persistence to find out who'll get cast. Due to the fact: watch 'Les Miserables' co-star Hathaway As Catwoman (she's playing Fantine) sing a parody of Eponine's killer number "By MyselfInch within the Academy awards below. Toll Booth (Gise memeru)
A Mantar Film, BKM Film production. (International sales: Mantar Film, Istanbul.) Produced by Engin Yenidunya, Tolga Karacelik. Directed, written by Tolga Karacelik. With: Serkan Ercan, Zafer Diper, Nergis Ozturk, Nur Aysan, Busra Pekin, Nadir Saribacak, Ruhi Sari, Sermet Yesil, Iskender Bagcilar. (Turkish, English dialogue)A Turkish toll-station worker tries to compensate for his monotonous routine with an overly eager imagination in "Toll Booth," the accomplished first film of scribe-helmer Tolga Karacelik. Intimate feature is constructed around a pitch-perfect perf from thesp Serkan Ercan, who strikingly brings the diffident protag to life, while ace storytelling and editing ensure auds remain perfectly aware throughout which scenes are but a figment of his mind's eye. Slightly surreal psychological portrait keeps things impressively light-footed and heartfelt, and should continue to see fests raise their boom barriers. (Turkey) Impeccably anonymous in his dime-a-dozen shirt and tie, insecure 35-year-old Kenan (Ercan) looks so undistinguished he could pass for someone 10 years younger or older. Colleagues at work refer to him as "Robot" because he seems to lack any personality trait or particular desire; it's almost a miracle his co-workers notice him at all. Kenan's generic looks are matched by his daily occupation: He mans one of the booths at an immense toll station, taking each driver's ticket and cashing the toll before allowing the car to pass. A series of short, classical closeups effectively suggest the numbingly repetitive nature of the job. Auds get a peek inside the mind of this cipher when his ailing father (Zafer Diper), who needs looking after at home, rather improbably turns up in his car at Kenan's tollbooth. Their conversation turns to the beautiful Nurgul (Nergis Ozturk), a friendly young neighbor who looks after the old man, and it quickly becomes clear that what we're seeing is happening inside Kenan's head. Key scene not only illustrates how the frail old man mentally towers over his unconfident son, but also shows how repressed sentiments can have far-reaching consequences in the real world. When a supervisor sees Kenan having his imaginary conversation on the job, he immediately transfers him to a single-booth country-road barrier. Rather than functioning as a wakeup call, the transfer to a place where nothing happens opens the door to more daydreams. These include not only Kenan's father, but also his late mother (seen in golden-hued flashbacks), his youth and his still-awkward relationship with the opposite sex, as personified by the sweet Nurgul and a sexy woman (Nur Aysan) whose car breaks down. Pic beautifully exteriorizes Kenan's locked-up fears and agonies. Like dreams, these reveries are somewhat surreal and occasionally nonsensical, but at the same time offer direct access to the character's subconscious. Never a heavy-handed Freudian dissection of Kenan's personality, pic remains light and even chuckle-inducing while never compromising the characters' sincere emotions. The dignified strength of Ercan's perf is especially helpful in this regard, though the cast is strong across the board. Melancholy score by Cem Adiyaman helps keep things grounded while the balance between real and imagined worlds is maintained with an impeccable eye for clarity. Only slightly subpar tech credit at screening caught was pic's sound mix.Camera (color, widescreen), Ercan Ozkan; editors, Cicek Kahraman, Evren Lus, Karacelik; music, Cem Adiyaman; art director, Nadide Argun; costume designer, Tuba Atac; sound (Dolby Digital), Umut Senyol. Sky Italia exits DTT race
Rupert Murdoch's Sky Italia satcaster has attracted from Italy's tender for digital terrestrial wavelengths, stating an excessively extended, convoluted method that favors incumbents -- including former pm Silvio Berlusconi's Mediaset TV group. "Hopefully our decision will ... open a constructive debate around the method that risks slowing down lower growth rather than marketing it," Sky Italia Boss Andrea Zappia mentioned in the statement. Italy's DTT area is centered by Mediaset and pubcaster RAI, while Sky only one DTT funnel, Cielo (meaning "Sky" in Italian). Sky had involved with a fierce legal fight while using recently left Berlusconi government to register inside the investing in an offer, receiving authorization within this summer time 2010 within the European Commission, which stressed that Sky had already aided open the tv market which its participation inside the DTT tender would further this process. Nevertheless the tender, which assigns wavelengths totally free, favors incumbents by requiring new players to purchase massive possibilities. The process, setup with the Berlusconi administration, preferred his Mediaset Television stations. Lifetime Builds up 10 More Cases Of Veteran Drama Series Military Partners
EXCLUSIVE: Lifetime has acquired 10 more cases of its flagship drama Military Partners. The series is presently in production on its 13-episode sixth season order. I hear Lifetime’s decision to stockpile more cases of Military Partners is created now and so the show could stay in continuous production. It comes down lower after each one of the network’s new series launched the 2009 summer season, The Protector and In The Wall, underperformed. By not branding the pickup just like a year, Lifetime may have all original cast people stored in. The heavens don’t have deals beyond Season 6 however contracts requires those to do all episodes produced, which might add a 23-episode sixth season. The 23-episode order will most likely be put into two batches but, in the contractual perspective, Lifetime will make the celebs in the show return for your 10 episodes at their current salary. While legal, this kind of move is generally frowned upon. I hear that Lifetime, that's presently deficit financing the ABC Art galleries/Mark Gordon Co.-produced Military Partners, has offered the main cast people a rise of $10,000 per episode. That signifies an increase of 10-20% for your stars, whose salaries vary but they're all inside the 5-figures, but is much under whatever they would get when they have to barter new contracts for just about any seventh season. Tacking a considerable volume of new episodes to have an existing season order to avoid settling new stars’ contracts is normal practice. In 2006, the supporting cast in the Sopranos experienced a standoff with Cinemax, which offered them a tenPercent pay increase if the made a decision to improve the best sixth season in the Emmy-winning mob drama from 13 to twenty episodes and split it into 2 batches of 12 and 8 episodes. All stars eventually got bigger boosts introduced by Tony Sirico and Steven Van Zandt who held off prior to the least minute and threatened to go away before greater than doubling their salaries. Because The Sopranos cast been effective to obtain large bumps, that's considered the exception instead of the rule. For instance, the cast in the Foreign exchange/The brand new the new sony TV drama Save Me weren’t capable of land significant boosts when the network chosen to split up the 19-episode sixth and final season into 2. Lifetime’s have to keep Military Partners, that have a great fifth season, interspersed having a set lots of 4.8 million total audiences, is understandable. The network is trying to rebuild its scripted series slate, and Military Partners and Drop Dead Diva are its purely available anchors. Nevertheless the network’s decision might have serious effects for your cast. The first 13-episode sixth season order for Military Partners, that have been regarded as as likely the show’s last, was slated to wrap by finish of February, prior to the stars to book broadcast aircraft aircraft pilots for next fall. The brand new pickup will rule the thesps out for aircraft aircraft pilots. The situation is a hardship on Military Partners star Sally Pressman which has a talent holding deal with NBC that needs her to become proven for aircraft aircraft pilots this season. She'll will have to push that deal. Fellow Military Partners star Catherine Bell also provide been fielding interest from broadcast systems for aircraft aircraft pilots. She recently headlined the arrival TNT movie Hello, Killer combined with been eying a potential follow-up additionally to a different movie/miniseries in their effective Good Witch movie franchise for your Hallmark Funnel after she finishes Military Partners in February.

Kim Kardashian Drops the Fairy Tale in Borderline Depressing New Glamour Interview
The nominations for the 27th annual Independent Spirit Awards were revealed this morning, and were dominated by The Weinstein Company's The Artist and Sony Pictures Classics' Take Shelter, which scored five nods each. Historically, Indie Spirit winners have tended to get nominated for -- but lose -- at the Oscars. That could change this year, however, with The Artist and The Descendants, two films that have both resonated as strongly as any with Academy members thus far, both nominated for best feature, best director and best screenplay.our editor recommends'The Artist,' 'Take Shelter' Dominate Indie Spirit Award NominationsThe Making of 'The Artist'The Making of 'My Week With Marilyn'Take Shelter: Film Review PHOTOS: The Making of 'The Artist' The Artist, The Descendants and Take Shelter will compete for best feature with Beginners (the big winner at last night's Gotham Awards), Drive, and 50/50. Bizarrely, Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris, which is one of the likeliest best picture Oscar nominees, was denied a spot in this category (as well as best director and best screenplay), even though it was nominated for best supporting actor (Corey Stoll) and best cinematography. Drake Doremus' Like Crazy, which also seemed to be a likely nominee, was also snubbed. PHOTOS: 'The Descendants' Premiere Red Carpet Arrivals A few other films were left out of the major categories for other reasons: Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life, with its $32 million budget, was too big to pass as an indie for this group. Meanwhile, three critics' favorites with Oscar aspirations -- Lars von Trier's Melancholia, Steve McQueen's Shame and Lynne Ramsey's We Need to Talk About Kevin -- were deemed to be foreign films and therefore ineligible outside of the category alotted for those. PHOTOS: Gotham Awards Red Carpet Arrivals Lastly, two inexplicable snubs occurred in the lead acting categories: George Clooney, the star of The Descendants, was left out of the best actor race, while Glenn Close, the star of Albert Nobbs, was left out of the best actress field-- even though her co-star Janet McTeer was nominated for best supporting actress. (I wouldn't read too much into these particular outcomes; indeed, it is highly likely that the Academy will reverse them.) I expect that those races will now be won by Jean Dujardin (The Artist) and either Michelle Williams (My Week with Marilyn) or Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene), respectively, and that Christopher Plummer (Beginners) and Shailene Woodley (The Descendants) will prevail in the supporting categories. NY - Facebook is targeting April to June 2012 for an initial public offering that it hopes will value the company at more than $100 billion, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the situation. It said that the social network is looking at raising $10 billion in the IPO, which would make it one of the largest such offerings ever. A $100 billion valuation would give the firm a value greater than twice that of such big names as Hewlett-Packard. Facebook's private market value had fallen slightly to $77 billion this fall after an extended run-up. "We're not going to participate in speculation about an IPO," a Facebook spokesman told the Journal. The paper said though that the company could file for an IPO by the end of the year. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has publicly expressed reluctance go public in the past kept Facebook private longer than many observers predicted he would, the Journal highlighted. It added that he has warmed to the idea of an IPO, but hasn't made a final decision. In a sign that it continues to do things differently, Facebook has not committed to any investment banks for a possible IPO. It even has crafted its own IPO prospectus, a document typically prepared by bankers and lawyers, the Journal said. Is 'Twilight: Breaking Dawn - Part 1' Appropriate For Your Teen?
'Breaking Dawn - Part 1' is undoubtedly the teen targeted phenomenon of the holiday season, but as anyone familiar with the series knows, the first half of Stephenie Meyer's final book focuses on some rather mature themes that may not be appropriate for younger teens -- and certainly not tweens. How hypocritical, you must be thinking, considering the first three installments feature a heavy dose of supernatural violence, suicidal thoughts and relationship drama. But in 'Breaking Dawn,' Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward's (Robert Pattinson) teen marriage leads to an unplanned, dangerous pregnancy, and one of the most horrific birth scenes ever put on film -- way too intense for most pre-teens to understand or see. Here are five issues to consider closely before you decide to take your under-15 kid to the movie. (Spoilers ahead) 1. Sex: While the first three movies in the supernatural romance saga depict adolescent lust -- and restraint -- in Bella and Edward's steamy-but-sexless relationship, 'Breaking Dawn' opens with the couple's wedding, which of course leads to the much-anticipated wedding night. On the plus side, the love scenes are tastefully shot, but the honeymoon sequence is extensive, and like all honeymoons, sex (of the bed-breaking variety) is constantly on the characters' minds. Bella is visibly bruised the morning after their first time, and later she all but begs Edward to have sex again. 2. Teen pregnancy: If the teen marriage doesn't concern you, the teen pregnancy might. Bella is only 18 when she and Edward (who's technically in his 100s) marry, and she immediately gets pregnant on their honeymoon. Since they don't think pregnancy is even possible, the newlyweds don't use birth control, and when Bella realizes she's expecting, Edward decides "the thing" needs to come out, but Bella has other ideas about the growing human-vampire hybrid. 3. Abortion debate: The bulk of the movie is one long pro-life debate. Sure, Bella says it's her body, her choice (terms usually used in the pro-choice movement), but her decision is pro-life to the extreme, because the baby can and will kill her. On the one hand, Bella is willing to protect her and Edward's unborn baby, even if it means giving up her life; on the other, poor Edward (and Jacob and everyone else except for Rosalie) wants the emaciated, dying Bella to terminate her pregnancy and save herself. Ultimately both mother and child survive, but there's so much "fetus" vs "baby," life begins at conception talk that it's bound to confuse some younger viewers. Watch the trailer for 'Breaking Dawn - Part 1' 4. Parental abandonment: One of the saddest subplots in the movie is that Bella has to lie to her father time and time again after she gets married. She claims it's for his own good, so he won't worry, but all the deception does is upset and alienate him. In the book, Bella is willing to forego a relationship with her parents in order to marry Edward and transform into a vampire. It's not that overt in the movie, but she does lie and tell him not to attempt to see her. It's certainly a confusing message for tweens and young teens -- that it's OK to abandon your family for the man you love. 5. Bloody birth scene: Have you seen 'Rosemary's Baby' or 'The Fly' remake? The birth scene in 'Breaking Dawn' makes those look tame by comparison. In director Bill Condon's defense, he was just being faithful to his source material, but really, the birth is bloody disgusting. Without Carlisle Cullen to deliver the baby, Edward has to result to extreme, vampiric methods to perform an emergency C-section ... with his teeth. There's so much blood it drives one of the other vampires into a bloodlust frenzy, and a nearly dead Bella is shown covered in blood, bites and bruises for a very long time. It's enough to make the faint of heart queasy. Matt Lauer Formally Retires Where On The Planet Segment For The Time Being
First Released: November 11, 2011 5:14 PM EST Credit: Access Hollywood Caption Matt Lauer smiles via satellite on Access Hollywood Survive November 11, 2011LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Today show co-host Matt Lauer is formally retiring the NBC shows popular Where on the planet is Matt Lauer? segment after 10 seasons of globetrotting for the time being. On Fridays Access Hollywood Live, Billy Rose bush requested Matt live via satellite from Barbados if he was prepared to hang up the phone his traveling hat. Are you currently completed with Where on the planet without a doubt? Billy requested Matt. You realize, 10 seems like a much better number to finish on than nine did, and so i think so, Matt stated. I believe weve had a lot of fun. Weve visited 51 places all over the world. However, the veteran journalist left the doorway open for that segment to come back later on. It will get harder and harder to locate remarkable places, he stated. So, if weren't completely completed with it, were certainly likely to relaxation it for any good lengthy while and perhaps revisit it having a twist at some future date. Additionally to Barbados, the tenth and (possibly) final Where on the planet? trip saw the 53-year-old walking through The country, Malaysia, Europe and Namibia. It had been the second locale where Matt impressed Today audiences and the co-employees together with his extreme sports abilities because he beautifully skied lower the sand dunes across the countrys Skeleton Coast. I believe probably the most fun I'd was the sand-skiing, he told Billy. It had been a great way to start a few days. For the wedding moment of the trip, Matt stated Jungfraujoch, Europe, won him over. That reveal on Thursday from the top Europe 11,745 ft up only the trip available online for was absurd, he stated. But to face at this place and appear out within the glaciers and also the Swiss Alps that, I believe, was my personal favorite moment each week. Copyright 2011 by NBC Universal, Corporation. 'Looking Forward to the Show': Billy Crystal Tweets He's Hosting Oscars
If Billy Crystal’s Twitter is to be believed, the funnyman has been tapped to replace Eddie Murphy as host of the Oscars in the wake of RatnerGate, as the comedian Tweeted today. “Am doing the Oscars so the young woman in the pharmacy will stop asking my name when I pick up my prescriptions,” read Crystal’s post. “Looking forward to the show.” An official announcement has yet to be made by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences either confirming or denying Crystal as host, and there’s a chance Crystal was just joshing with his adoring public. (But what kind of dick move would that be?) So take it as you will, and start getting used to the fact that no, the Muppets probably won’t be hosting the biggest night in Hollywood. At least, not this year. 18 Films Submitted to Oscar's Best Animated Feature Race; What Can Win?
There’s good news and… well, more good news about this year’s race for the Best Animated Feature Oscar. First, the number of submissions — 18 — exceeds the minimum of 16 required for a year of five nominees. (Last year only netted 15 submissions, and thus three nominees, as if anybody was going to knock off Toy Story 3 anyway.) And with a soft year for the likes of both Pixar and DreamWorks Animation, that means the field is pretty wide open for the first time in a while. What can win? Here are your options: · The Adventures of Tintin · Alois Nebel · Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked · Arthur Christmas · Cars 2 · A Cat in Paris · Chico & Rita · Gnomeo & Juliet · Happy Feet Too · Hoodwinked Two! Hood Vs. Evil · Kung Fu Panda 2 · Mars Needs Moms · Puss in Boots · Rango · Rio · The Smurfs · Winnie the Pooh · Wrinkles One word: Rango. It’s the best-reviewed film on the list, it’s an international hit (with less than half of Cars 2 or Kung Fu Panda 2’s global gross, but exponentially more cultural goodwill), and it’s a rare chance for George Lucas — whose Industrial Light and Magic produced the revelatory animation — to throw his weight around in the awards ring. Tintin’s motion-capture stylings remain fraught with technical ambiguities about which the Academy is notoriously prickly, The Smurfs is half-live-action, and Disney’s otherwise weak crop of competition includes a 63-minute bonbon and one of the biggest flops ever. Rio, Puss in Boots and Happy Feet Too are probably locks for nominations as well. Chico and Rita has a solid shot to sneak in as well — not as a huge influencer by any means, but rather as the token foreign-language offering with a ’50s-era romance spanning Havana, NY, Las Vegas and beyond. James McAvoy talks X-Men: First Class sequel ideas
Total Film recently sat down with the new Professor X, James McAvoy, and naturally we grilled him about the potential of a sequel to X-Men: First Class. When we asked him if he'd be up for a follow up to Matthew Vaughn's mutant prequel, McAvoy told us, "I'd be up for it. But the truth is I'm contractually obliged to be up for it because they made us all sign multiple picture deals!"But does he have any idea where the story will go, following on from the ending of First Class?"I've spoken to Matthew [Vaughn] about ideas, but I can't tell you what they are because they may or may not be the story. One thing I liked about our one was that it was different from the other three films where the X-Men are the good guys, Wolverine's figuring out who he is and Magneto is the bad guy."This was a completely different thing. Magneto wasn't a bad guy, we were friends. We're now set up to go back to the way the other movies are, so we've got to try to be cleverer than that."For more from James McAvoy, get the new issue of Total Film Magazine, which hits newsstands on Thursday 27 October 2011!To subscribe to Total Film Magazine, click here. You can now read Total Film magazine on iPhone and iPad via Apple Newsstand! To find it on the UK App Store, click here. 'Grimm,' 'Once Upon a Time': TV Review
If there can be five -- or possibly could it be seven or maybe more? -- comedies about how precisely modern men're too weak being referred to as males, then what measures-fetched could it be that two new series focus on favorite anecdotes?our editor recommendsThe Hollywood Reporter's 10 Showrunners to Watch'Once Upon A Time' Executive Producers Want to Have Rhianna around the ShowNBC Previews First 20 minutes of 'Grimm,' Extended Look of 'Chuck' (Video) PHOTOS: Fall TV's 12 Most Anticipated Shows ABC's Not such a long time ago feels confident using a slew of well-known favorite anecdotes, while NBC's Grimm mines the greater dark tales in the Brothers and sisters Grimm. It's a greater-concept hootenanny with varied results. Possibly greater sell isn't such a long time ago, which opens just like a period piece where the Seven Dwarfs are huddled around an entombed Snow White-colored -- and before you decide to discrete what's going to take place, you might finish off laughing rather. Why? Because it feels and appears hokey. Hokey is really a concern. Snow White-colored is carried out by Ginnifer Goodwin and Prince Charming by Josh Dallas. There's an Evil Full, clearly, carried out by Lana Parrilla, whose try to experience evil falls well missing convincing. She's one of many because even Robert Carlyle, who is able to do yanking off both evil and costumed, is eyebrow-raisingly cheesy as Rumpelstiltskin. Put them altogether inside an excessively extended review of the series, and a family member will need the forces of Merlin to pry the remote out of your hands when you lunge to change the funnel. PHOTOS: ABC's Year Tv Shows After which it something interesting happens -- certainly more interesting nowadays yanking off some time piece in primetime. The knowledge switches to the present, which we meet Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison), a bail bondswoman, loner and many types of-around tough girl. Into her existence jumps Henry (Jared Gilmore), a precocious 10-year-old boy from Storybrooke (wink, wink), Maine. He tracks lower Emma and claims he's her boy, the primary one she put within the towel for adoption at birth. He's a magazine of favorite anecdotes and states that Emma must go back to Storybrooke to put things right. What things? Well, Henry thinks the Evil Witch has cast a spell, now all the fairy-tale figures from lore are locked in Storybrooke, unsure who they may be or what ongoing formerly. His adoptive mother is Regina (also carried out by Parrilla), the only real-mother mayor of Storybrooke and, states Henry, probably the Evil Witch. Henry also thinks Emma might be the daughter of Prince Charming and Snow White-colored which only she'll unlock the mysteries of Storybrooke and supply everyone a cheerful ending by clearing them. Got that? Company, in Storybrooke, just about any fairy-tale character you'll be able to develop -- you understand, like Geppetto -- is lurking their modern self. This part of the series holds no less than minimal fascination as Henry tries to unveil the truth. However, if Not such a long time ago flashes to fairy-tale days, Uncle Hokey complements them. With him, you will discover no happy being. PHOTOS: Fall TV Preview 2011: 10 Fresh Faces To Know In people moments -- specially when modern vocabulary sneaks in and Goodwin seems embarrassed doing lines -- Not such a long time ago completely stops time. You'll be able to't determine if this ought to be farce it's the opt-out moment. The show can be a bold idea, there's expect the present-world portions, nevertheless it doesn't quite understand what it's (or even it'll, nevertheless the audience won't). ABC made episode three available to experts too, and -- tragic ending alert! -- the series appears being getting worse, not better. The producers behind NBC's Grimm have the formula better in several ways. For starters, the concept now's simpler and much easier to follow along with together with (and execute) these days such a long time ago because it's linear (no less than inside the pilot, really the only episode the network could submit time for review). Tigard homicide detective Nick Burckhardt (David Giuntoli) is leading an regular existence along with his girlfriend, Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch), and also the partner, Hank (Russell Hornsby). Eventually, he starts seeing bizarre things -- as being a businesswoman consider him and costly momentarily in to a zombie, a perp costly into some form of serpent together with a man out getting his mail costly in to a werewolf. Normally, you'd think his meds were way, way off. But Nick just kind of comes from it -- a momentary fault inside the series until his cancer-stricken aunt appears by getting an Airstream full of medieval weapons, ancient storybooks together with a wary killer's try searching in her own eye. He's getting these crazy visions as they's next in line -- the next Grimm, "charged with keeping balance between humanity as well as the mythological creatures around the world,In . according to NBC. PHOTOS: NBC's New Shows Also round the plus side for Grimm is the fact the results are wonderful. Better still, it offers extensive scares and thrills. It's not the kind of demonstrate'll desire to watch while consuming wine in bed mattress -- no less than, not burgandy or merlot wine. Because way, Grimm seems more grown-up within the approach these days such a long time ago because it's more violent and less hokey. Plus, hey, it's a procedural. The Grimm pilot is creative and scores points to get a reluctant, awesome werewolf (or "Grimm creature," as NBC likes to say, probably because the network includes a spook and may take further protections later on) named Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) who decides to help Nick navigate the bizarre world he's likely to encounter. Mitchell nails the comic elements, which leaven the stress, while convincing us he's a "Grimm creature" trying to become great. One episode isn't enough to declare whether Grimm might have the following. Nevertheless it's a genre show around the Friday evening -- where on the account, even though it's getting mighty crowded with Fringe and Supernatural inside the mix. It's chills and humor and an opportunity to possess a procedural story and twist it. Viacom Shares Lower After Lighter-Than-Expected Ad Forecast
Boss Philippe Dauman told the Goldman Sachs Communicopia conference that Viacom will dsicover “high-single-digit” rise in ad sales in our quarter. Thatput a scare into traders who anticipated double-digit growth. Viacom’s lower about 6.5% in mid-daytrading, while watching benchmark Standard & Poor’s 500, that's off about 3%. Dauman tried to cast a flattering light round the situation:”Despite the macroeconomic mind lines, a bad tone in the advertising market remains strong,” he mentioned. Particularly, according to him that Viacom has held onto orders created within the upfront market while scatter pricing is “in the teens above upfront. … We'd an excellent quarter, and subsequently quarter looks good.” More youthful crowd mentioned he's seen no weakness in probably the most important ad-sales groups for Viacom’scable systems including auto, toys, andmovies. The overseas situation is mixed: “Some (areas) are strong and several are weakened.” Although acknowledging the marketplace changes while using economy,as Viacom’s”new shows begin working, we've positive momentum.” Dauman also states he’s advised by potential options to promote licensed merchandise, especially aroundcharacters on Nickelodeon.”We’ve aligned our consumer products organization while using creative organization as well as the marketing organization. New York Photographers on What Makes an Effective Headshot
The old adage about a picture being worth a thousand words is especially true when it comes to actors' headshots. This one photo is supposed to convey your personality, your age range, your ability to work well with others, and dozens of other elements that will influence a casting director's decision to bring you in for an audition. How do you and your photographer capture all that information in a single image? What combination of lighting, wardrobe, and spontaneity will produce the best result? To get the answers to these vital questions, we asked photographers in Los Angeles and NY to send us two outstanding examples of their workone of a man and one of a womanalong with a brief explanation of why they think these particular pictures are successful in "selling" their subjects. Their responses, along with the photos, are on the following pages. (Photos by Liam Alexander) Liam Alexander The most important thing is that your headshot look like you. When actors submit for a project, casting directors are looking at a sea of little pictures on a website and putting a check next to the ones that look like what they want. So the lighting must be clear, and the photo must read at a small size, look exactly like you when you walk in the door, and look like your type. For Eric's outdoor shot, he's unshaven, looking a little rough, with a more tousled "hit me up" look. This is what they see, and this is exactly what they get when he walks in.For Leigh, this shot is simple but successful. Women have to remember that being mature isn't bad; it's how you wear it. I love this shot of Leigh because she reads as a mature woman but with a great youthful energy. You want her to come to the casting just to brighten your day. Nobody wants to see a dead body on TV, and people want to see that you're proud of who you are and comfortable in your skin. And she really shines in this picture. (Photos by Jinsey Dauk) Jinsey Dauk It's all in the eyes! Here in their headshots, actors Rhonda Jensen and Miguel Perez are both open, approachable, warm, and engaging. They emit a spirit, a personality, and a feeling. That's exactly what you want in a headshotyou want the casting director to feel all that. Because I shoot with natural light and not flash, it's easy for clients to feel more natural themselves; they are spontaneous and being, not posing. Their eyes are alive. Casting directors and agents like this because not only do the actors look like their headshots, but the CDs and agents get a sense of communication and honesty.Regarding the background, I always keep it out of focus to help the subjects become more three-dimensional, as if they're jumping off the page. Regarding the clothing, I prefer that we keep the shot simple by going with mostly solid-colored clothing. That makes the eyes the most important thing in the shot. People feel they almost know these actors just by looking into their eyes. That's the kind of connection to strive for in a headshot. (Photos by Rod Goodman) Rod Goodman What makes the headshot of Jarvia Udosen successful is her warm eye contact and smile. This is also a good example of a three-quarter shot that works, because this young lady has a full face and, in showing some of her body, we are able to see that she is in good shape. We may not get that with a tighter headshot.John Buxton's headshot is successful because he has layers to the emotions he's conveying. The muscles of his face and mouth are relaxed and he has great eye contact. If you saw either of these actors in person, you would see that they look just like their headshots. (Photos by Joe Henson) Joe Henson The best headshots are a perfect mix of aesthetics and useful information. To attract the viewer's attention, a headshot must be compelling and attractive to look at, a magnetic combination of composition, lighting, color, and personality. I want all of my headshots to look great, even upside down. Once you have the viewer's attention, a great headshot must define and clarify the elements of an actor's presence that define the character types best suited to that actor. My photo of Will Lyman reflects his intensity, strength, and sensitivity. He is raw and direct. He can play powerful characters with depth. My photo of Susannah Hoffman is as striking as her beauty and reflects her playful, romantic-lead intelligence. She can easily be seen as the lead female in the relationship. My job is to take away the guesswork and reveal the truth in a visually compelling way. (Photos by Jason Homa) Jason Homa Erin Lamey is classic beauty. Putting her in this simple studio environment places all the focus on her. Her features really stand out and her beauty shines. But what one really sees is the intensity and depth in her eyes, the confidence she has, her presence, and the attention she can command from an audience. We know she can be soft and emotional or a strong leading lady. This photo is captivating and really holds the viewer's attention. It's certainly not going to get overlooked or passed by, even in a stack of 100 headshots on a casting director's desk. From his shot, we know that Esdras Toussaint is a powerful leading man and leans toward serious dramatic roles. From the thought we can read in his eyes, the slight smile, we get a sense of the subtleties of his emotional range. But in this seemingly simple shot of him on the street, we also know he's approachable. We get a strong sense of who he is. (Photos by Peter Hurley) Peter Hurley I took this headshot of Casey Bond, and what I really wanted to capture was his charm. In this shot in particular, he has a great connection to the camera and an inviting expression that draws the onlooker into the shot. In order to create the kinds of expressions that stand out when casting directors flip through headshots, you need to engage the three things we use on our face to communicate: mouth, eyes, and eyebrows. Casey did a great job of meshing the three together to show off a touch of his personality. Each time I look at this photo of Adepero Oduye, a smile comes to my face. Her smile is so infectious and genuine, as is her personality, and I firmly believe that a photographer could never accomplish this by asking the subject to smile. Yes, I know that's a strange thing for most to hear, but in my studio I create an atmosphere that is fun in order to pull natural smiles out of my clients that give you a feeling when you see them. I can't wait to see where Adepero's career is headed and am glad this headshot has helped her along the way.Note: Peter Hurley also has a studio in Los Angeles. (Photos by Jimmi Kilduff) Jimmi Kilduff Stephanie was ready to make the transition from theater to film and TV and wanted a shot that would help her accomplish that goal. The horizontal framing, defocused sunset in the background, and contrast of the oranges and yellows with her blue shirt and eyes make the shot "pop" and help to create a more cinematic feel. Her open, confident expression and natural beauty combined with these cinematic elements create a headshot that speaks directly to film and TV casting directors, showing them she is able to step into a dynamically framed shot and become the missing piece that brings it together, making it memorable.Michael, a confident and easygoing "young leading man," needed a shot for both musical theater and film. Framed at just below the sternum and cutting off the shoulders slightly, this shot accentuates his tall, broad frame and gives him the physical appearance of a young leading man. His slightly tilted head, his boyish smile, and the highlights on his jaw line enhance this impression while maintaining the ease of his personality. Because there is enough of his body to give a clear impression of his physicality while the shot is framed close enough to display the expressive qualities of his face, this headshot can be used for either theater or film. (Photos by Kendall Pettygrove) Kendall Pettygrove This headshot captures Kathleen's inner softness and ease, and yet she reads as a professional and someone that you'd like to work with. Her unique physical attributes include a leonine mane (which is captured without taming it or having it overwhelm her face), charming freckles, amazing dimples, andlast but most important for a commercial shota gorgeous, natural smile. I think this headshot covers all that an 8-by-10 can demonstrate. I wouldn't hesitate to call her in if I were a casting director, as I would feel I knew a lot about her already.Rob's agent wanted a shot that she could submit to show his more serious professional sidehis "Law & Order" shot, we joked. This shot highlights his overall good looks, intensity, and intelligence. He could easily be seen as a lawyer, doctor, detective, husband, white-collar criminal, businessman, etc. So the shot satisfies the agent's request while also showing Rob's versatility. Additionally, there is a playfulness and accessibility to his humanity under that smoldering professionalism. This pic says, "He could handle all aspects of a serious professional, from hero to criminal." (Photos by John Quilty) John Quilty I find Georgia Engel's headshot successful because it presents Georgia in a manner that is familiar to her fans and audiences while representing her look and style in 2011. She appears as the ultimate professional, yet accessible and friendly. Rob Gallagher's headshot reflects the actor's ability to project confidence and the charm of a leading man. His Broadway career demands a headshot that is classic in its dual ability to be used for casting and publication in Playbills and concert programs. (Photos by Susan Shacter) Susan Shacter The woman's photo is simple, clean, pared down, with no distractions. She is fresh, alive, and touchable. The first thing you see is a healthy, beautiful woman. You don't really notice the makeup, hair, or clothes. You want to know who she is. In the man's photo, everything in the image points to his eyes. They grab hold of you and pull you in. His skin is free of makeup; it's alive and touchable. You want to know him. (Photos by James Shubinski) James Shubinski I believe that, of course, a headshot must be a completely accurate visual representation of the actor, but it is also essential to identify an actor's unique qualities and make them stand out in a very competitive marketplace. I do a planning session before every shoot, which includes exercises to identify how the actor is perceived and how the actor views him- or herself, and we use the results to plan every detail of the shoot. Once we're shooting, I do whatever it takes to make the actor feel relaxed, comfortable, and safe.Amber Swenson has that wholesome "Ivory girl" quality. But she is also strong, frank, ambitious, defiant, and sexy. This look was put together to show a sexy, smart, fun, strong, confident woman who could drink you under the table after she mopped the floor with you in court that day and will rock your world later that night. But you could still bring her home to mom.Chris Nunez is fresh out of acting school. He is controlled, wise, searching, and driven, with access to a dark, moody, passionate undercurrent. Our goal for this look was to show a strong young man a step away from childhood innocence, who is willing to take on any challenge to get what he wants. (Photos by Hayley Sparks) Hayley Sparks The headshot of Jon Hamm works because you get a sense of how smart and magnetic he is, and it has integrity. The headshot of Maya Ferrera is successful because we captured a beautiful, natural smile and you can feel her charm, confidence, and joy.I use natural light, which gives depth and context to the space and allows for shallow depth of field to bring focus to the eyes and beautiful light on the face. My angle of shooting and style empower the actor. It is my job to help the actor relax and connect and to capture the moment in which he or she is really smiling or feeling centered and confident. (Photos by Gabrielle Stubbert) Gabrielle Stubbert (Raw Photos) Very few people I have metincluding actorslike to get their pictures taken. This is pretty comical, especially when you consider that the business you are in involves getting up in front of an audience and giving them an experience, touching their heart in a way that makes them fall in "love" with you. The same applies to your pictures. You are trying to get the casting director's attention. All the photographers will tell you, "You need a picture that jumps out and says something about you." Well, yes, but what you want every time, whether it's your picture or your audition, is for them to fall in love with you.We all have something about us that is lovable. Is it your sense of humor, your warmth, your sense of honor, your loyalty? Really sit down and think about your best qualities. And by that I mean your qualities, not the ones you want to emulate. What is it about you that makes you lovable? Take some time to think about this and then practice in a mirror or with your iPhone or a video camera. Come prepared knowing who you are. Then take the picture. (Photos by Blu Toth) Blu Toth (Bluface Photography) I think the most important thing about a good headshot is that it really has to look like you and represent you the best possible way. There is nothing more interesting than the real you. My work is a significant factor in getting my actors a foot in the door where once they could not enter. At Bluface, I want actors to feel completely safe and able to be themselves, not playing a character. A comfort level with the viewer must be established at a glance. If an actor presents a picture of him- or herself playing a character or expressing a specific style, it can be limiting. But if an actor shows openness and honesty, the result will be callbacks and castings. The picture of Malaika Mqulo is one of my favorites because of its honesty, charm, and depth. You are drawn to her smile, both in the expression in her eyes and in her compelling smile. The picture of Ken Zwerin shows that the eyes truly are the mirror of one's soul. Notice how open, warm, and interesting he looks. His eyes show strength and vulnerability at a glance.
